The gear
A good helmet with an unscratched visor is of the greatest import while riding in the rain scratches on the visor reduce visibility drastically in the rain. If you remove or turn up the visor, heavy droplets will crash into your eyes at high speeds, making it difficult to keep them open. Motorcyclists are always advised to keep lots of bungee cords, a torch and a multiple-utility kit (like a Swiss Army knife). It is important to keep your tyres in good condition. Some people prefer to deflate the tyres slightly while riding in the rain, for it gives additional grip. It is an idea, but it should be field-tested in good conditions first, because slightly deflated tyres feel quite different.
A well-padded riding jacket, riding pants, protective riding gloves and riding boots provide additional safety. Protective gear is a matter of personal choice, as it becomes difficult to put on and take off. Make sure you are comfortable with what you use. Cramster of Bangalore (cramster. in) and DSG of Pune (planetdsg. com) makes some nice protective riding gear, as well as saddlebags of varying sizes. A rain suit and warm inners help.
