As the longtail boat sliced through the jade-green waters, I couldn’t help but marvel at Krabi’s surreal beauty. The karst cliffs rising dramatically from the sea were every bit as magical as the postcards had promised. This was the start of my Krabi getaway in Thailand, and I already knew it was going to be special.
Our base was Ao Nang, a lively yet laid-back town with cozy beach bars and bustling night markets. We checked in to Avani Ao Nang Cliff Resort where the panoramic views of the ocean were simply breathtaking. From here, we ventured to Railay Beach, a sun-soaked paradise accessible only by boat. As our toes sank into the powdery sand, we discovered it wasn’t just a beach—it was a haven for rock climbers scaling limestone cliffs and travelers like us who were simply seeking serenity. The highlight? Phra Nang Cave, a mystical shrine dedicated to a sea princess, where locals leave offerings for good fortune.
A day trip to the Four Islands—Poda, Chicken, Tub, and Mor—felt like hopping between dreams. We snorkelled among vibrant coral reefs, waded across sandbars at low tide, and soaked up views of Chicken Island’s iconic rock formation. At each stop, the colours of the sea shifted between turquoise and deep blue, almost as if nature were showing off.
The next day, we decided to explore Krabi’s lush interior. Tiger Cave Temple (Wat Tham Sua) tested our resolve with 1,260 steps to its hilltop shrine, but the panoramic views of Krabi’s coastline were worth every gasp of breath. Beneath the golden Buddha statue, the wind whispered through the mountains, offering a spiritual reprieve.
Midway through our trip, we decided to escape the tourist buzz and spend two days on Koh Lanta, a tranquil island that feels worlds apart. The ferry ride itself was a delight, with sea breezes and a view of Krabi’s iconic limestone cliffs. We stayed in a cozy beach facing villa at Avani Koh Lanta resort, where mornings began with coffee on the sand and evenings ended with fiery sunsets dipping into the horizon. Koh Lanta’s charm lies in its laid-back pace—perfect for renting a scooter and exploring at leisure.
The island’s Lanta Old Town, a quaint village with wooden stilt houses overlooking the sea, was a highlight. We wandered through its streets, stopping to browse local handicrafts and enjoy a leisurely lunch of fresh seafood curry at a family-run café. Another day took us to the Mu Ko Lanta National Park, where a short hike led to a windswept lighthouse perched on a cliff, offering sweeping views of the turquoise Andaman Sea. On the way back, we stopped at Kantiang Bay, one of the island’s most stunning beaches, almost deserted save for the sound of gentle waves.
It was time to head back to Krabi. Back in Ao Nang, we explored the Emerald Pool and Hot Springs Waterfall next - hidden gems within Krabi’s verdant rainforest. The Emerald Pool’s crystalline waters shimmered in the sunlight, inviting us for a refreshing dip, while the natural thermal springs felt like nature’s own jacuzzi, crowded with people. we chucked the idea. However, a hydro spa back at the resort refreshed us thoroughly!
Evenings were reserved for feasting. At Ao Nang’s night market, we gorged on steaming bowls of tom yum soup, skewers of grilled seafood, and mango sticky rice so perfectly sweet, it became an obsession. One evening, we hopped onto a sunset cruise that served dinner on board as the Andaman Sea turned to liquid gold—a memory etched into my heart. The hotel's Reggae Bar overlooking the ocean was the perfect place for indulging in some great cocktails.
Krabi isn’t just a destination; it’s a collection of moments that transport you far from the ordinary. From kayaking through mangroves at Ao Thalane to marveling at bioluminescent plankton during a night swim, there’s a quiet magic in every corner. My only regret? Not staying longer.
As our flight soared above Krabi’s shimmering waters, I realized this wasn’t just a trip. It was a chance to reconnect—with nature, with wonder, and with myself. Krabi had cast its spell, and I left a piece of my heart on its shores.
