Finding the right person to travel with is as important as choosing where to travel to. While you and your travel buddy may not agree on everything (which is completely normal), it is important to recognise that everybody comes with their own strengths. While somebody may not be great at keeping up with the budget, they'd make up for it by being great at bargaining or always having a plan B ready in case something goes wrong. If you have travelled frequently with different people, we are positive you may have come across one (or all) of these types. And if not, you may just be one of them.

Here are the different kinds of personalities that make for great travel buddies.

The Master Planner

If you are the spontaneous kind and love to play it by ear, it always helps to have somebody unlike yourself to get you going. When you prefer going without a plan, it is easy to fall trap to confusion, and before you know it, there's not much you've been able to fit into your day. In such cases, it's great to travel with somebody who has an itinerary figured out, complete with all the necessary details, from timings to the best places to catch a bite nearby.

The Know-It-All

There are few travellers who take "when in Rome, do as the Romans do" very seriously. They're quick to delve deep into the culture of a place they're travelling to–from knowing all about its history to having by-hearted information you'd most likely find in museums. And that's just the beginning. A traveller with such a personality does not mind taking on a few tens of miles by foot if it means they will make it to an obscure church that never finds a mention in any guide.

The Navigator

Being good with directions is an underrated skill in day-to-day life. But when trying to figure your way back to the hotel after an exciting night out in a city, having a friend who's certain you must take a right turn to end up at the correct spot is a god sent. They're the human navigators and can give Google Maps a run for their money. The best part about them is that you can roam worry-free, knowing that you will always end up at the right place as long as you are with them.

The Adventure Junkie

Even though you may have always had deep sea diving on your travel bucket list, it is not unusual to get intimidated by it and back out. In such instances, you need the kind of friend who is always ready to take up an adventure and even pushes you to do the same. Such adventure-junky travel buddies are always looking to get their adrenaline fix. They are great at ensuring that your trip together leaves you with many unforgettable memories and personal milestones.

The Savvy Saver

It's easy to lose track of your spending when you're on holiday, so it's always great travelling with somebody who is financially savvy and always on top of keeping track of the budget–especially when travelling with a big group so that when the trip is over they know exactly how much each person owes the other.

The Shapeshifter

While travelling is fun, you also may find yourself in unfavourable situations you couldn't have predicted otherwise. In such cases, travelling with somebody who always has a plan B ready is the best. Such travellers always have an answer ready for "what ifs" and can adapt themselves to the need of any situation.

The Talkative Traveller

While you might be comfortable with the universal language, imagine being in a local restaurant with staff who don't speak English. That's when you'd wish you had the talkative traveller with you. They're all about connecting with the locals and learning a handful of useful phrases in their language. The best part? Ordering food becomes a breeze with them around.
