This New Road Reduces Travel Time Between BKC And Mumbai's Eastern Suburbs To 15 Minutes Only

The 180-meter road is more than just a link between SEBI Building and Avenue-5. It’s a well-thought-out solution to ease traffic woes in one of Mumbai’s busiest hubs

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has opened a new signal-free road connecting the SEBI Building to Avenue-5 in Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC). This new stretch passes under the BKC connector and Avenue-3 (near WeWork), making commutes faster and easier for everyone heading through the area.

This 180-meter road was completed in record time—just three and a half months, half the originally planned deadline. It’s designed to reduce traffic congestion at key junctions like BKC One and the BKC Connector.

The new road provides three alternative routes to enter BKC, easing congestion and making traffic flow much smoother. With signal-free movement, it now takes 15 minutes to travel from the eastern suburbs to BKC. Three of the six lanes are open for traffic, and the remaining three will be operational soon.

So, what makes this road a game-changer? It ensures uninterrupted traffic flow, minimising delays and enhancing the commuter experience. By effectively distributing vehicles through three routes—the BKC Connector, EEH, and internal avenues—this project reduces bottlenecks and speeds up traffic movement.

This road offers smooth connectivity if you visit popular BKC landmarks like the NSE side, Avenue-5, the MCA Club, consulates, or MTNL. It’s particularly helpful for commuters travelling between these points without the hassle of multiple stops or congestion.

This initiative is part of MMRDA’s broader mission to improve urban mobility and eliminate traffic jams in Mumbai. It’s also the third road connecting the eastern suburbs to BKC, alongside the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR), existing BKC connectors, and the road below the BKC-Chunnabhatti connector. Together, these projects aim to transform how people move across the city.

For the unversed, in 2019, MMRDA built an elevated connector between BKC ‘G Block’ and EEH, which has already improved accessibility. This new road builds on that momentum, ensuring even better connectivity and smoother commutes.
