Ram Janmabhoomi Temple Urges Locals To Postpone Visits As Mahakumbh 2025 Crowds Grow

The Ram Janmabhoomi Temple management committee in Ayodhya has issued an advisory urging local devotees to postpone their visits for 15-20 days after an “unprecedented increase” in visitors, largely due to the ongoing Mahakumbh in Prayagraj.

With the “Mukhya Snan” (main bathing ritual) for Mauni Amavasya scheduled for January 29, 2025, the Mahakumbh is attracting a massive influx of pilgrims. An estimated 10 crore devotees are expected to take a holy dip in Prayagraj on this auspicious day. The temple's capacity is also severely strained because many of these pilgrims are travelling to Ayodhya from Prayagraj to offer their prayers to Lord Ram.

Ayodhya has witnessed a footfall of around 40 lakh devotees since Monday, choking the roads and bylanes leading to the Ram Temple with huge traffic snarls, officials said. The temple administration observed that it is getting harder to guarantee the darshan of Ram Lalla, which causes logistical issues and lengthier walking distances for devotees. They further added that relief could only be forthcoming after Vasant Panchami (February 2), when the weather will become more pleasant.

Thus, the committee has appealed to local devotees to allow pilgrims from distant locations an easier darshan experience during this peak period. “We humbly request devotees from nearby areas to plan their visit to Ayodhya 15-20 days later. This will ensure convenience for everyone,” the advisory stated.

Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh government has intensified security and logistical preparations for the Maha Kumbh. The “Amrit Snan” on Mauni Amavasya is expected to draw around 10 crore pilgrims to Prayagraj in a single day. Over the first 17 days of the Maha Kumbh, more than 15 crore devotees have already participated in the holy ritual.

Held every 12 years, the Maha Kumbh 2025 got underway on January 13 and will run through February 26. The government of Uttar Pradesh expects between 40 and 45 crore pilgrims to attend the festival, making it one of the biggest gatherings in the world.
