Beginning this month, restrictions in place owing to the coronavirus pandemic began easing across countries. Public places as well as tourist spots are ready to welcome visitors again, with necessary regulations in place. India also eased lockdown restrictions in its first phase and unlocked malls, hotels and places of worship.
Pakistan is now ready to open the Kartarpur corridor from today. The corridor, that opened recently after much political ado, has been shut since March 16, and will open on the death anniversary of Maharaja Ranjeet Singh.
India is yet to take a decision on the same and will do so only after consultation with health authorities and other stakeholders.
The corridor is a pilgrim route connecting India and Pakistan and allowing devotees to visit the Gurudwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur. The secure corridor&mdashthe foundation stone for which was laid in 2018&mdashconnects the gurudwara in Pakistan to the border in India. It allows Sikh pilgrims from India a visa-free access to the holy site, which is visible from the Indian side of the border via an elevated observation platform. The corridor had been shut for three months to contain and control the spread of the coronavirus outbreak.
