Author : OurTeam

On February 1, at the foot of Le Morne mountain, surrounded by caves where runaway slaves took refuge, there will be a huge celebration commemorating the 'Abolition of Slavery' day. Mauritius had been a huge victim of the international slave tradefor a very long time, and the country managed t shake free its shackles only on February 1, 1835. To celebrate this achievement, concerts and commemorative events are organised all over Mauritius. But the ones at Le Morne hold a special place simply because of the history attached with it. At Le Morne, which was a haven for runaway slaves, there will be festivities centred around the Slave Route Monument at the foot of the Le Morne mountain.
