The Kaziranga National Park had reopened after the lockdown on October 21. It has now resumed its elephant safari, but with a ceiling on numbers. Only 37 travelers at a time are allowed to move on the elephant around the park while following all the necessary COVID-19 safety measures.

On Sunday, a small ceremony was performed before the resumption of the safari by the forest officials along with the elephant trainers or mahouts. A local priest smeared vermillion on the forehead of the elephants as they prepared to receive their first riders after a long while.
After this, the first batch of tourists enjoyed a one hour ride through the forest, famous for the endangered one-horned rhinoceros. It is also home to a significant amount of tigers, leopards, bison and swamp deers.
