Guwahati-based JettWings Airways announced plans to commence flight services to three destinations in West Bengal shortly, according to an airline official.

Under the government's UDAN scheme, the airline will inaugurate flights to Cooch Behar in northern West Bengal from Guwahati. Additionally, the official disclosed that it will introduce commercial services to Kolkata and Bagdogra.

The Guwahati-based carrier recently secured clearance to operate across 12 sectors spanning the Northeast, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar under the UDAN initiative.

Pending regulatory approvals, commercial flights between Assam and West Bengal are slated to commence by the first week of June, while UDAN scheme flights are anticipated to kick off by the end of June, the official stated.

Daily flights between Guwahati and Kolkata via Rupsi airport will be initiated, utilising 88-plus-seater aircraft for commercial operations, according to Sanjay Aditya Singh, CEO and MD of JettWings Airways. Singh noted the potential use of smaller aircraft for short-haul flights to Bagdogra and Cooch Behar.

Founded by Dr. Sanjive Narain and Sanjay Aditya Singh, JettWings Airways aims to become the first airline from the Northeast region to operate fixed-wing aircraft on commercial routes this year. The company plans to deploy modern deck turbofan regional jets and turboprops, supported by a comprehensive business strategy to acquire and operate 42 aircraft within the initial five years.

The airline's expansion will connect airports in Guwahati, Pakyong in Sikkim, Cooch Behar, Kushinagar, Gaya, Bareilly, Kanpur, and Agra, as outlined in a company statement.
