Just a while back, countries around the world had imposed stringent travel restrictions on the United Kingdom following the discovery of a new coronavirus strain within its boundaries. More than forty countries had banned travel to and from the UK, including India.

Now, the ban is being lifted gradually.

Civil aviation minister Hardeep Singh Puri announced on Friday (January 1) that India-UK flights will resume from January 8. To start with, only 15 flights will be operated by each country in the four Indian metros of Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

On December 23, when flights were suspended, 67 flights were being operated per week between London and 10 Indian cities. Passengers who had booked flight seats were informed that their flights had recheduled.

The news will offer some relief to people currently stuck in the UK, and those who had been planning to get back there from India.

It's probable that people coming to India from the UK will have to undergo the RT-PCR test. Also, some states have their own rules for UK passengers. For instance, Mumbai airport had announced a mandatory institutional quarantine.
