Pokemon Go has decided to throw challenge to trainers (players) around the globe to coincide with the Dia De Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) holidays, until November 2 this year.

The festival originated in Mexico but is now observed in many countries. During the holidays (usually from October 31 to November 2), family and friends gather to pay respect and to remember friends and family members who have died. There are many rituals associated with the observation, including honouring the dead with calaveras (decorated skulls in many forms, from masks to suga candies) and aztec marigold flowers, building home altars called ofrendas with the favorite foods and beverages of the departed, and visiting graves with these items as gifts for the deceased, etc.

The competition is largely a &lsquoCollection Challenge&rsquo leading to a Shedinja encounter.

Up for collection are Sunkern and Cubone (both caught through a wild, incense, or lure encounter, or with a Field Research reward), Roselia (caught through a wild encounter or a Field Research reward), and Murkrow, Hundou, Sableye, Sunflora, and Difloon (all of the caught through a wild, incense, or lure encounter).

During the challenge period, trainers will also be able to win rewards and bonuses, such as Lure Modules lasting for 90 minutes, Incense lasting for 90 minutes, Double Catch Stardust. Participants from Latin America and the Caribbean can also win extra bonuses.

Players who complete the Collection Challenge will get one Incense, one Poffin, and a Shedinja encounter as a reward. The achievement will also be considered for the Elite Collector Medal moving forward.

Besides, players may look out for two free items being given out to all players during the event. One, a T-Shirt avatar in the likeness of &lsquopapel picado&rsquo, a decorative craft commonly used in Dia de los Muertos celebration, and two, an Event box containing 20 Poke Balls and one Incense.

The challenge ends on November 2, eight pm (local time, Mexico).
