This year the summer monsoon has hit the Indian subcontinent a little too hard perhaps. After the devastating flood in Kerala, now it's the northeastern state of Nagaland that has come under the wrath of monsoon. It is by far one of the worst monsoon episodes that the state has been through. Due to torrential rainfall, there has been not only floods but severe landslides as well in the state because of which districts like Kiphire, Phek and Tuensang got cut-off from the rest of the state and country. The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (Helpline 1070, toll  free) along with relief assistance from the Government of India, NGOs and individual donations, has reached out to people in need. The relief work is still going on. As of now, the road connectivity has been restored in some parts but with the prediction of more rain in coming days, the situation remains grim. It will definitely take time for the state to heal from this but in the meantime, Mokokchung District Musicians Association, Mokokchung and Kohima (at The Heritage, Old DC Bungalow) are going to host fund-raisers on September 8 and 16 respectively.
