Bengaluru To Get Colour-Coded Cycling District

The city is all set to get its very own cycling district which will be opened in phases

Been envying those photographs of cyclists in Europe in their cycling districts with well-marked lanes Bengaluru is all set to get its very own cycling district with colour-coded lanes and tracks. The Directorate of Urban Land Transport (DULT) is planning to create cycling districts across the city in a phased manner. This plan would encourage more people to take up cycling be it for recreational purposes or to commute to work. This is the age of social distancing and cycling has taken off in a big way.

The city's first cycling district will span across 25 yards along the Outer Ring Road, and will be covering paths near Old Airport Road, KR Puram, Indiranagar and Koramangala. Also, there will be five colour-coded lanes, i.e., orange, purple, red, green and blue.

Colour codes will demarcate separate lanes for different commuters. Purple line will be used for cycling to work, those going to schools will take the red line, those cycling for recreation can take the green route, whereas orange will lead to transit lanes, and blue will be dedicated for shopping trails.

Earlier in August, DULT received around 133 mapped routes via various tools such as Google Maps, GPS Visualiser, Mapunity Draw, Strava and mapmyride.
