A spot of good news for wildlife enthusiasts. They can now go on a day visit to five zones inside the Corbett Tiger Reserve in Uttarakhand even during the monsoon season.

Many national parks and tiger reserves in India remain shut during the monsoon (usually between July 1 and September/October). Usually Corbett Tiger Reserve remains shut between June 15 and October 15. This year, the parks were shut down in May as the second wave of the pandemic struck.

The five zones which opened for day visits on June 29 are Garjia, Bijrani, Dhara-Jhirna, Dhela and Pakhro.

The media quoted Rahul Kumar, Director, Corbett Tiger Reserve as saying the five ranges will be open for day visits for the whole year.

Booking for day safaris have to be made in advance on the official website link of Corbett Tiger Reserve (https://www.corbettonline.uk.gov.in/ctzDvAvailability.aspx).

However, bookings are subject to availability of slots. Also, safaris are subject to weather conditions too. Incessant rains may lead to cancellation of safaris. Night stay is not allowed during this period.

Pakhro, the new entry point for the Corbett Tiger Reserve, is about two hours&rsquo drive from Jolly Grant Airport, Dehra Dun. It allows easy access to the Sonanadi zone. Jhirna, Dhela and Garjia are accessible from Ramnagar.
