The rolling hills of Nilgiris present a sight to behold and experiences that stay etched in your heart as special memories. Covered in mist and stretches of green, the Nilgiris are just as beautiful as the delicate flowers it derives its name from, the Neelakurinji. And just like them, the hills bloom with enchanting experiences, breathtaking views and boundless beauty.

Ooty

Just as the wheels of the nostalgic blue toy train begin to turn slower and the green hills peek through the dense, grey clouds, Ooty&rsquos sweet melody hums through the air. Its charm and beauty are anything but a well-kept secret.

Everybody who has been here has been swept away by it with the ease and elegance associated with royalty. Therefore, it does not come as a surprise when it often gets regarded as the &ldquoQueen of Hill Stations.&rdquo

A boat ride across the glittering waters of Ooty Lake is the best way to begin exploring everything it holds. Artificially constructed by John Sullivan in 1824, the lake sits surrounded by imposing eucalyptus trees and under the vast clear sky. You can either take in the majestic views by sailing the calm waters on a motor, rowing or paddle boat or stay on the shore and enjoy its many offerings, such as horse riding and cycling.

The Sandynulla lake is another romantic locale where you can enjoy quiet time with your loved ones. If it begins to feel like a scene out of a movie, head to the pine tree forest nearby, and the views will reaffirm your feelings.

Ooty has many wondrous experiences reserved for nature lovers as well. The Government Botanical Garden, established by Marquis Tweedale in 1897, is one such spot. With 600 varieties of plant species, lily ponds built during the first World War, and a rose garden where over 300 types of roses bloom, the garden is home to many discoveries.

Kotagiri

Once you&rsquove been smitten by the verdant slopes of Ooty and Coonor, it is difficult to resist the slow and calm aura of the serene Kotagiri hills. However, its valleys and gradients are ideal for slow travellers and adventurers.

Situated 1793 m above sea level, Kotagiri offers many trekking trails leading you to points from where the Nilgiris form a picture-perfect view. Among them, the Kotagiri-Kodanad trail and the Kotagiri-Longwood Shola trail are the most popular among trekkers.

Kotagiri also falls close to other scenic spots that dot the Nilgiris, such as the Doddabetta range and Rangaswamy pillar, where travellers can also take up thrilling experiences such as rock climbing.
