Situated 110 km from Shillong, Nongkhnum Island emerges as a hidden gem within the landscape of Meghalaya. As the largest river island in the state and the second largest in all of India, it boasts a sense of tranquillity and seclusion, far removed from the hustle and bustle of civilization. While the path leading to the island could benefit from improvement, the journey is well worth it. Upon arrival, a tapestry of delights unfolds before you- azure rivers, pristine sandy beaches, and majestic waterfalls. Nongkhnum Island offers an abundance of activities to engage in, ranging from sunbathing on the shores to embarking on boating adventures or even indulging in a spot of fishing.

Mawrygkhang Trek
Nestled within the Pynursla sub-division, this trek is the newest addition to Meghalaya's thrilling adventure spots. The journey begins at Wahkhen village, located approximately 50 km away from Shillong, where an extraordinary bamboo trail and skywalk await. It's important to note that public transportation to this village is non-existent, adding to the sense of exclusivity. This trek, however, is not for the faint-hearted or those with acrophobia, as it is renowned as the most spine-chilling expedition in Meghalaya. The trail is constructed entirely of bamboo and hovers above the formidable Wahrew River, heightening the adrenaline-inducing experience. As you traverse the path, it gradually descends until reaching the awe-inspiring Mackling Cliff.
