Asian Elephant (Elephas maximus)

Thrive near lakes and rivers in Periyar. Often seen bathing or foraging; herds gather especially in dry months. A symbol of the reserve’s identity.

Bengal Tiger (Panthera tigris)

A protected apex predator in Periyar’s dense forests. Roughly 40 tigers estimated. Elusive, mostly seen via tracks or distant sightings.
