As evening sets in, millions of clay diyas illuminate Varanasi’s ghats. Their golden reflections stretch across the Ganga, creating a magical sight after sunset.
During deepdan, devotees set leaf boats carrying tiny oil lamps afloat on the river. Thousands of glowing diyas drift along the Ganga, creating a beautiful spectacle.
At Dashashwamedh Ghat, priests perform the Ganga Aarti with elaborate brass lamps, incense and conch shells. The synchronised rituals make the evening especially memorable.
At Chet Singh Ghat, centuries-old stone walls become screens for colourful laser shows and projection mapping, bringing Varanasi’s history and mythology to life.
Along the riverfront, temples, ashrams, and heritage buildings glow with strings of electric lights. Their illuminated facades add another layer to the city's festive atmosphere.
Out on the Ganga, hundreds of boats gather with visitors hoping to catch the celebrations from the water. Their silhouettes create a striking sight against the glowing ghats.
Intricate rangolis decorate the ghat steps, with colourful powders, flowers, and grains forming detailed patterns; these artworks look even more beautiful beside rows of diyas.
As the night draws to a close, fireworks light up the sky above the Ganga. Their colourful reflections dance across the water, bringing the celebrations to a spectacular end.
